Mayor’s Half Marathon

Maybe it looks hard. Maybe it was. Maybe it was hillier than we thought it would be. Whatever. Totally counts as hike 5/52 also!

Cherry Creek Falls.

Having a Monday off, Hoang, Lando, and I decided to head out for a small local hike. We always like to find new places, so we chose Cherry Creek Falls from the Washington Trails Association website. It was a beautiful and easy hike in. Don’t forget to turn immediately after the largest creek crossing.Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 8.24.49 PM

Waterfalls, wildlife, and we never saw another person at the falls. Know of any other great hikes in the area? Leave them in the comments. Thanks!

High gas prices suck.

Ride a bike. Waaaa, it’s cold. Get a jacket! I got this jacket this winter and have never been happier. It is the best cycling jacket I have ever owned. Totally windproof and highly visible, if I can ride in the northwest in the winter, you can do it where you live, too.

As gas prices are increasing at astonishing rates I am riding my bike more and more. I stopped riding my bike to work when school started. I was using the excuse that it took too long. I ride to school every day. It is just over a mile, but it takes a lot less time than driving, looking and paying for parking, and getting to class. Parking is $3 a day at a community college!

My grand hope is that gas hits some outrageous price this summer. $7 or $8 would probably do it. I think that it might eventually lead to more bike paths. Not bike lanes where a small white line separates me from the fast moving vehicles, but an actual bike only lane. Kind of like this:

>Boats and cakes.

>It seems like it has been a busy week. I worked at The Denver Boat Show. Wakeboarding boats over $100,000! What recession? These people aren’t donating that much to Haiti. But neither am I. I am closer to the food vs. rent dilemma. Luckily for me, even the YMCA has financial assistance. Speaking of which, I finally feel like I am learning how to swim again. I put in over 2k in the pool this afternoon. My legs are beat up from running, testing my new cycling kit (thanks Rudy Project!) on the trainer and then playing indoor soccer yesterday. It feels good.

I was having a discussion about negative people today and mentioned that I love my life. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Why bother?
I made a cheesecake yesterday. I will try it tomorrow. I had too much batter and made little cheesecake bites in my muffin pan. This is so much better than living in a van. I even made the sour cream topping myself. This KitchenAid mixer is going to help negate my training.
